StoryCaptain is a monthly book club for children between the ages of 0 to 7. Each month you will receive a curated package of books that takes your child on a new adventure centered around a theme of a particular place, culture, or time. The books will be selected to complement each other, each showcasing a different facet of the theme.

We undertake an extensive process to identify books that bring together great stories, have beautiful illustrations, and are sure to spark your child’s imagination. We start by compiling a list of all the books that relate to our theme and review each and every one – often hundreds each month!


Our final selection includes input from two experts: a children’s librarian and a highly accomplished children’s author. Each month, we are looking to uncover two to three hidden treasures per club that are not already on your bookshelf and that showcase diverse perspectives on the theme.

We purposely don’t publicize the contents of upcoming boxes so the books are a surprise to both you and your little one!

In the Board Book Club, you will get three board books each month. The Board & Picture Book Club delivers a mix of 2 or 3 board and picture books, suitable for a range of ages and reading stages. Subscribers to the Picture Book Club can expect 3 picture books tailored to spark their curiosity and imagination.

Our goal is to send you books that are not likely in your child’s library. However, if you already have one of our books, send us a picture of both of them at and we’ll either send you a replacement book or a coupon for your next renewal.

Our Board Book Club is ideal for children aged 0-3, featuring sturdy board books designed for little hands. The Board & Picture Book Club combines board books and picture books, making it a great choice for siblings of varying ages or 3-4-year-olds beginning to explore picture books. Older children (ages 4-7) typically enjoy the Picture Book Club, which delivers captivating picture books monthly. Remember, these are just guidelines—children’s needs vary. If you find the club isn’t a perfect fit, we’re here to help transition your subscription to another club that better suits your child’s stage!

Absolutely! You can switch to a different club at any point during your subscription. Just send us an email indicating when you’d like to make the change, and we’ll take care of it for you.

StoryCaptain makes a great gift for many occasions- a new baby, a birthday or just because. Simply click on Give as Gift, select the club and term. You will have the option to write a personalized message that your recipient will receive in an email and in their first box. You don’t even need to know your recipient’s mailing address as we will ask them to input it after getting the notification email. Gift subscriptions do not renew.

Yes, you can! If you’d like the first box of a gift subscription to be sent to your address, simply choose this option on the second tab of the gift checkout page. Just ensure that you’ve selected the Give as Gift option to access this choice.

Absolutely! If you have their address, enter it during the gift checkout. If not, simply provide their email, and we’ll ask for their address in the gift notification email.

Yes! You can add a personalized gift message on the second tab of the gift checkout page. To access this option, make sure you’ve selected the Give as Gift option. Your message will be included in the initial gift notification email (if you provide the recipient’s email address) and will also be placed inside the first gift box.

You will get an email prior to the end of your subscription asking if you want to renew your subscription. You can also email us at ahead of time to renew your subscription.

We aim to deliver your books swiftly—your initial box ships within 3 business days of your order. Subsequent boxes are dispatched at the start or mid-point of each month. We ship all our boxes via USPS Media Mail. Depending on your location, delivery times may vary, usually taking between 2 to 8 business days.

We understand if you need to cancel your subscription. To do so, simply send us an email at before your next renewal, and we’ll take care of canceling your subscription for you.

Your subscription will renew on the anniversary of your initial order. So, for example, if you select a 6-month subscription, then your membership would renew 6 months from the date you placed the order. You can find your renewal date in your initial order email, or in the My Accounts page.

You can pause your subscription for a maximum of six months. Simply email us at and we are happy to help!

We’re sure you’ll love our books, but if not, we have a refund policy: If you cancel a multi-month subscription early, we offer a refund for any unshipped months. The guarantee does not apply to gift subscriptions.
